Maybe…Let it burn
“Letting go doesn't mean that you don't care about someone anymore. It's just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.” Deborah Reber
What would you do if you saw a fire and were able to put it out? Now, what would you do if there was a fire starting or happening in your own life? When we have a fire in our own lives, we do everything possible to put it out. We neither want to get burned or let it “destroy” what is burning.
Sometimes, just maybe, we need to let it burn. Be it a relationship, friendship, or challenging situation at work (within reason). Too often we attempt to salvage and save things that are meant to burn. We assume that we are to save everything because it shows up in our lives - no.
All of life teaches us lessons. If we missed the smoke that led to the fire, it could be that we needed greater awareness as to what the smoke was signaling to us. Not every person, situation, or desire are we supposed to save. Sure, some are necessary to fight for; but accurately discern which is are and what you are holding on to out of fear. Some are meant to become ash to teach us a lesson we otherwise would not learn.
Heartache can come as much from holding too tightly to a burning situation as it can from knowing that it is coming to an end.
Learn to evaluate what should be saved and what is meant to burn. Learn to let go of things, people, and situations that are causing you pain.
“Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don't resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality. Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.” Lao Tzu
Remember, a Phoenix - a new life/new you - is born from the ashes.
